Bucks County has over 35 Boards and Authorities, from Health Care to Land Preservation and everything in between. If you have experience in a subject or even just a passion, the County would like to consider you for a Board Appointment. No experience is necessary; we ask only that you commit to attending the scheduled meetings and participate.

Agricultural Land Preservation Board
The Bucks County Agricultural Land Preservation Board administers the Bucks County Agricultural Land Preservation Program. This program uses funds from the state, county, and local governments to purchase agricultural conservation easements from owners of productive farmland in Bucks County. The easements ensure that the farms remain preserved in agricultural uses for perpetuity.

Airport Authority
The five-member Bucks County Airport Authority owns and operates Doylestown Airport and Quakertown Airport, which are important parts of the transportation infrastructure of the county.

America250PA - Bucks County
America250PA - Bucks County is a 15 member commission formed to commemorate America's 250th birthday, encouraging Bucks Countians to learn from a shared past, to reflect on the present and to work towards a future that expands on the ideals the nation was founded on - liberty, equality and democracy.

Area Agency on Aging Advisory Council
The Bucks County Area Agency on Aging Advisory Council, comprised of 15 members, acts in an advisory capacity to the county commissioners and the Bucks County Area Agency on Aging (AAA). The council also serves as an advocate for older persons in the county.

Board of Assessment
The Board of Assessment consists of three members assesses current property values.

Board of Health
The Board of Health appoints the health director and advises the health director on such matters as he/she may bring before it. The Board of Health exercises the rule-making power conferred upon the County Department of Health by the formulation of rules and regulations for the prevention of disease, for the prevention and removal of conditions that constitute a menace to health, and for the promotion and preservation of the general public health.

Bucks County Transport
The purpose of the Bucks County Transports Board is to promote and provide shared ride transportation services for the general public, including the elderly, low-income, and disabled citizens of Bucks County.

Children & Youth Advisory Board
The Bucks County Children and Youth Advisory Board consists of between nine and 19 citizens who have an interest and commitment to promoting the welfare of vulnerable children and their families. The purpose as stated in the bylaws is “to recommend plans and policy to the county commissioners and to aid and assist in the establishment, development and operation of social services to children and youth in need in Bucks County.”

Community College Authority
The Bucks County Community College Authority, comprised of five members, has as its primary purpose acquiring, holding, improving, maintaining and operating, owning, and leasing all facilities necessary for furthering post-secondary education and training at the county community college.

Community College Board of Trustees
The Board of Trustees of Bucks County Community College has as its primary function policy-making and responsibility for sound resource management of the college.

Conservation District
The Bucks County Conservation District works to control the erosion of soil from both agricultural fields and development sites. A delegation agreement with the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection to administer Title 25-Chapter 102 of the Pennsylvania Clean Stream Law enables the district to monitor earth disturbance within Bucks County.

Delaware Valley Regional Finance Authority
Bucks, Chester, Delaware, and Montgomery counties created the Delaware Valley Regional Finance Authority (“DelVal”) in 1985 to provide loans to local governments in Pennsylvania (the “Loan Program”). Loans are limited to funding capital projects as defined in the Local Government Unit Debt Act.

Delaware Valley Regional Planning Commission
The Delaware Valley Regional Planning Commission is the federally designated Metropolitan Planning Organization for a diverse nine-county region in two states: Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Montgomery, and Philadelphia in Pennsylvania; and Burlington, Camden, Gloucester, and Mercer in New Jersey.

DVRPC Public Participation Task Force
The mission of the PPTF is to provide ongoing access to the regional planning and decision-making process, to review timely issues, to serve as a conduit for DVRPC information to organizations and communities across the region, to assist the Commission in implementing public outreach strategies, and empower citizens to get involved in regional planning.

Drug & Alcohol Commission, Inc.
The Bucks County Drug & Alcohol Commission, Inc. (BCDAC) is the designated Single County Authority (SCA) for alcohol, tobacco and other drug prevention, intervention and treatment services for county residents.

Emergency Health Council
The council is a voluntary organization established solely as an advisory board of 11 members whose purpose is to provide recommendations related to the coordination of emergency medical service within or otherwise affecting Bucks County as set forth in Title 28, July 20, 2002 1001.125 (a) "Requirements."

Free Library
The board’s purpose is to: promote library service in Bucks County; work actively for the improvement of all libraries to meet the informational, educational, and recreational needs of the community of Bucks County; develop and adopt policies to govern the operation of the free library system of Bucks County; and secure, in cooperation with the Bucks County Commissioners, adequate funding and facilities for the free library system of Bucks County.

Housing Authority
The Bucks County Housing Authority promotes adequate and affordable housing, economic opportunity and a suitable living environment, free from discrimination, through its rental properties and programs.

Housing Development Corporation
Bucks County Housing Development Corporation (BCHDC) is a 501 (C) (3) non-profit corporation founded in 1969 with the mission to provide affordable housing opportunities to throughout the County to lower-income elderly residents and low and middle income families, and to assist these tenants in accessing the necessary and available social service supports.

Human Relations Council
A nine-member board, the Bucks County Human Relations Council is dedicated to promoting the value of diversity within the county and to serving as a resource and referral service for citizens who believe they have been a victim of hate crimes or discrimination in housing, employment, equal access or fair treatment.

Industrial Development Authority
The five-member Bucks County Industrial Development Authority (BCIDA) was created in 1968 by the Bucks County Commissioners to foster new job and job retention opportunities for Bucks County residents through tax-free financing.

Juvenile Detention Center Board of Managers
The Juvenile Detention Center Board of Managers consists of the three Commissioners, the President Judge, the Director of the Youth Center, the Controller and five Citizens Participants appointed by the President Judge and/or the Commissioner Chair.

Local Emergency Planning Committee
The 18-member committee was established to implement the provisions of this law within Bucks County, and subsequently, to carry out the duties specified for Pennsylvania LEPC's in Section 203 of the Pennsylvania Hazardous Material Emergency Planning and Response Act, Act 165 of 1990

Mental Health / Developmental Programs Advisory
This board has the power to review and evaluate County's mental health and developmental needs, programs, services, and facilities and make recommendations to local authorities.

New Americans Advisory Commission
The Mission of the New Americans Advisory Commission is to help immigrants and first- and second-generation Americans with the challenges of adjusting and prospering in their new environment.

Opportunity Council, Inc.
Bucks County Opportunity Council, Inc. with 18 members (three appointed by the Commissioners) is a non-profit Community Action Agency established in 1965. Our mission is to help low-income people in Bucks County achieve and maintain economic self-sufficiency.

Parks and Recreation Board
The board shall endeavor to make fair and just recommendations to the benefit of Bucks County in accordance with the objectives of the county’s Parks and Recreation Plan.

Penn State Cooperative Extension
The mission of Penn State Cooperative Extension, Bucks County is to provide non-formal educational programs in the areas of agriculture, horticulture, 4-H youth development and family living to the citizens of Bucks County.

Pennsylvania Convention Center Authority
The Pennsylvania Convention Center Authority is charged by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania as the steward of the public good; assuring the successful operation of the world-class Pennsylvania Convention Center, and to drive economic prosperity for the greater Philadelphia region as a world-class convention center.

Planning Commission
The board members provide guidance and advice on planning and land-use issues.

Prison Oversight Board
Established in 2002, the Bucks County Prison Oversight Board is responsible for overseeing the operation and maintenance of the Bucks County Correctional Facility and all alternative housing facilities, overseeing the health and safekeeping of inmates and confirming the Commissioners' selection of the warden.

Redevelopment Authority of the County of Bucks
The authority, consisting of five members, assists municipalities, businesses, private developers, and homeowners located in the County of Bucks in the rehabilitation of blighted and deteriorated properties and the reuse of abandoned or unused commercial and industrial sites.

Saint Mary Hospital Authority
Saint Mary Hospital Authority was established by the Bucks County Commissioners in approximately 1973. The five-member authority was created to provide the vehicle that enables tax-free bond financing for member hospitals.

Solid Waste Advisory Committee
The Solid Waste Advisory Committee serves in an advisory and technical capacity to the Bucks County Commissioners on topics that include the development of the Bucks County Municipal Waste Management Plan, or revisions to the plan, as well as any topics related to municipal waste/recycling deemed appropriate by the committee or the commissioners.

Serving Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Montgomery, and Philadelphia Counties. Bucks County appoints two members to the SEPTA Board

SEPTA Citizens Advisory Commission
The Citizen Advisory Committee acts as an independent representative and advocate on behalf of current and potential customers of public transportation in the five-county region of Southeastern Pennsylvania and the contiguous areas served by SEPTA. The CAC was established by the State in 1967.

Visit Bucks County
Bucks County Conference and Visitors Bureau, Inc. is the official tourist promotion agency for Bucks County and serves as an economic development agency for the county. The mission of the Bucks County Conference and Visitors Bureau is to market and promote its member businesses and its historic, cultural and entertainment sites to improve the economy in Bucks County by bringing visitors, meetings, conferences and events to the county; responsibly manage public funds in its charge; efficiently operate the facilities it manages; and serve customers, visitors, and delegates with courtesy, knowledge and skill.

Water & Sewer Authority
The Authority Board establishes operating and service policies, approves the annual budget, capital plan, contracts, and performs other responsibilities typically resting with a board of directors.

Workforce Development Board
The Workforce and Economic Development Board of Directors is comprised of a minimum of 51% private sector (employer/business) members, representatives of local educational entities, labor organizations, community-based organizations, and economic development agencies and PA CareerLink® Bucks County Partners and investors.
