Operation Safe Home

Program Overview

Bucks County Chief Fire Marshal Nicholas E. Rafferty, CFI is proud to announce that the implementation phase of the county’s Operation Safe Home grant project began in Bristol Township during the first weekend of February. On February 7th, county officials joined 10 members of the American Hose Hook and Ladder of Bristol to install 89 free smoke alarms in 49 homes. On February 21st, a total of 15 volunteers from the Perkasie Fire Company joined Rafferty and his staff to install 116 alarms in 41 residences. The program will continue through the coming months.

The $40,100 grant, which was awarded by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) last year, provides at-risk, low income families throughout Bucks County with 10-year, lithium smoke alarms and fire-prevention awareness materials. The smoke-alarm units are designed to be tamper-proof, offering an additional public-safety benefit.
